What is the cost of Biohort products in a different colour?

Notwithstanding the standard colors you can choose between most of the over 200 RAL colors. This additional powder coating not only looks very noble, but also increases the protection against corrosion. RAL color charts are available at the color departments of the markets or stores. Of course it is a significant additional work and expense because the RAL powder coating (similar to a polyester enamel) is externally. All parts have to be packed, unpacked and sent several times. The Garden Shed Europe and the Equipment Locker, the whole product can be painted in a different color. Concerning the other storage solutions, you can ask our Biohort Service Team. The surcharge for special RAL finishes is different for each product.

Standard colors Biohort product range:

Garden Shed Europe: quartz gray, dark green, dark gray metallic, silver metallic

Garden Shed AvantGarde: silver metallic, dark green, dark gray metallic

Equipment Locker: silver metallic, dark green, dark gray metallic

Woodstock: silver metallic, dark gray metallic

StoreMax: silver metallic, dark gray metallic, quartz gray

LeisureTime Box: white, silver metallic, dark green, dark gray metallic

Return to the FAQ list
How are Biohort products packed?
They are for packed ready for self-assembly in sturdy corrugated cartons which are clearly marked on the outside. The majority of our products are delivered in a single box. However, the Garden Sheds Europa and AvantGard and StoreMax 190, because of the weight and size of various items are divided in 2 to 4 boxes.
Return to the FAQ list
Can the double door be installed in other positions?
The door can be mounted off-centre or on any shed wall depending upon the shed size. Note: if the door is fitted in the outer left or right-hand corner of a side wall, (below the gutter spout), the drainpipe and storm hooks can no longer be fitted.
Return to the FAQ list
Is a wider door available?

With the exception of the Shed sizes 1 and 2, the standard door (135 cm wide x 171 cm high) can be replaced by ordering a wider double door (171 cm x 171 cm). Due to the modular construction, the wider door can only be positioned eccentrically in the walls. The surrounding wall panels will be then matched with the larger opening and delivered in the corresponding quantity and sizes.

Return to the FAQ list
Are the freight charges included in the price?
Yes! In the mentioned countries, the delivery is free of charge (Austria, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, England, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Spain). Requirement is that the delivery address is located on the mainland and the street is drivable with a 38t truck. The products will be deliverd to the market or directly to the customers home.
Return to the FAQ list
What does "delivery free of charge" really mean?
"Free shipping" is the unique transport from our factory to the specified delivery address (mainland only), last curb, under the condition that the road is accessible for a 38 tonne truck. Please note: If the goods can't be deliverd because the customer is absent, delivery charges are levied by the haulage company. Therefore we recommend the free telephone Aviso. Specify a phone number where you can be reached during the day. The haulier will contact you to give you the date of delivery.
Return to the FAQ list
"20 years guarantee" - for what, exactly?

- against rusting through of the steel panels - for defective or unserviceable parts Excluded from the guarantee are damages incurred in transit (haulage company is liabe), damages incurred due to faulty or inadequate foundations and/or corrosive materials in the surroundings, indirect or secondary damage. For wear and tear, moving parts, changes in colour, plastic- and rubber parts the statutory period of guarantee applies. The detailed conditions of guarantee are normally enclosed with each delivery (guarantee certificate) we will gladly send these to any customer upon request.

Return to the FAQ list
What steps can one take to prevent the formation of condensation water?

Please pay attention during assembly, that a damp course be installed to protect against moisture rising from the ground below (see foundation advice Garden Shed). Where there is high humidity and large variations in temperature, it is possible that condensation will build on the inside of the roof during the night. This is dependent on local conditions, however it can be reduced or prevented by applying 2 cm thick polystyrene panels on the inside as insulation. The polystyrene panels must be attached with an appropriate glue to the inside of the roof (please enquire at your local dealer as regards a suitable PU-glue).

Return to the FAQ list
What can one do, when the Shed sizes on offer are to small?
Should a Garden Shed be required in a size larger than those offered by us, an extra shed can, with the assistance of a mounting kit be attached to the gable end of a shed (only available for Garden Shed Europa). The first Shed is either already in place or will be delivered in standard configuration. The extension Shed will be delivered without back wall and front (door) elements. Instead of these the necessary components for assembling both sheds will be supplied (i.e. combining Shed sizes 7 and 5 together will result in a shed 5,2 meters long). The roof at the gable connecting point will still have headroom of 173 cm. To guarantee the stability of over-long shed sizes a reinforced concrete foundation is absolutely essential.
Return to the FAQ list
In which countries does "delivery free of charge" apply?
Prerequisite for delivery to Austria, Germany, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, England, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Italy and Spain, is that the delivery address is situated on the mainland and is accessible by 38t lorry. Transport costs are incurred for deliveries to all other countries.
Return to the FAQ list
What sort of maintenance do Biohort products require?
Biohort products require - thanks to the high-quality materials from which they are built - hardly any maintenance. All that's required is that the lock, the hinges and guide profiles, rails etc. are oiled at least once or twice a year or treated with grease (Vaseline in the case of the guide rails of the Storemax). In the case of soiling and dirt brought on by weather and environmental conditions only water, a sponge and mild household detergent are required to clean our products. You can even use a high-pressure cleaner to get rid of dirt on your garden shed (keep a minimum distance of at least 10cm from paintwork). Should the paint finish become deeply scratched, this damage must be repaired by retouching the paint in the affected area. Important: Aggressive cleaning and scouring agents, road salt, fertilisers and other similar chemical materials can attack the paint and zinc surfaces resulting in rust damage. Guarantee claims in such cases can no longer be brought to bear. For Biohort products which are to be used near the sea, make sure that the distance to salt water is at least 200m!
Return to the FAQ list
Are special skills or tools necessary to complete the assembly?

No, even without special manual skills you will be able to assemble Biohort products with the illustrated assembly instructions provided. The most essential tool required - an M7 socket spanner - is included in the package. A flat spanner 7/10 is also included in the delivery of the Garden Shed/Equipment Locker. To assemble the Garden Shed/

Equipment Locker an additional flat-blade screwdriver, or in the case of the StoreMax® a Philips screwdriver are essential. If you do not wish to assemble the product yourself, we will be more than happy to help you. You can find our certified assembly contractors in our website under “Assembly service”.

Return to the FAQ list
Is it possible to plant vegetation directly onto the roof of the Garden Shed?

The planting of vegetation (grass) directly onto the roof is for various reasons not recommended. However there is no reason why climbing plants (vines or ivy) should not be allowed to grow over the walls and roof.

Return to the FAQ list
Are there legal restrictions concerning the erection of Biohort Garden sheds?
As a rule, no! The building regulations of most local councils permit erection without planning permission. In some cases, a retro-active report to the authorities is all that will be required. Many countries will allow you to erect the shed directly on the property boundary.
A
"planning application" form is included in the assembly instructions for the shed, you can also download our standard plan from the Biohort website should it be required. Our advice: Please check with your local authorities or government. In addition, make sure you come to a written agreement with your neighbours.
Return to the FAQ list
How much time is required to assemble Biohort products?

This depends on several factors:

A) skilfulness of the assemblers

Garden Shed "Europa"

3 to 6 hours (depending on size)

Garden Shed Europa: 2 People
Garden Shed AvantGarde: 2 People
Equipment Locker: 1-2 People
StoreMax: 1-2 People

Return to the FAQ list
Which types of foundation construction are to be recommended for the Garden Shed/Equipment Locker?

1. The simplest erection solution is to install your Garden Shed directly on to a Biohort Floor Frame (without any special foundation) and secure this in the ground with the storm anchors provided. The Floor Frame can then be filled out with commercially available paving slabs.

2. An effective and economical solution can be achieved by laying paving slabs (40 x 40 cm or 50 x 50 cm) in a sand or shingle bed. These paving slabs are available in a variety of colours and finishes from almost all Home worker- and DIY suppliers. Even when the paving slabs are firmly and evenly placed in the sand or shingle we still recommend the use of a Biohort Floor Frame to ensure stability.

3. Another solution to assure the storm-proof erection of the Garden Shed on uneven and yielding ground is to combine the Biohort Floor Frame with a point foundation. The foundation points must be positioned at each of the four corners of the shed and have a minimum size of 30 x 30 cm. The excavation should be of an adequate depth to ensure protection against frost. The Shed, including Floor Frame, will be attached at each of the four foundation points twice over with the anchoring material provided.

4. A reinforced concrete foundation in a gravel bed is without doubt the optimum but most expensive solution. Even with this option, measures must be taken to ensure that no water can enter the shed from underneath the floor frame. A shouldered foundation with a step of 2 cm x 7 cm running around the circumference is the most ideal of all the variations proposed here.

Return to the FAQ list
What steps must be taken during the design and construction of the foundations for the Garden Shed/Equiment Locker?
During the construction of the foundations, irregardless which option is chosen, it is absolutely essential to place a plastic sheet at least 150 µm thick underneath the foundation. In the case of a concrete foundation you must ensure that the plastic sheet is cut flush with the outer edges of the foundation. Should you choose to use paving slabs laid in sand or gravel, please ensure that the plastic sheet does not extend beyond the outside edges of the Shed itself. (Rain water running down the sides of the Shed must be able to seep between the paving slabs into the ground below.) Should you choose not to use a plastic sheet, or should this be improperly or inadequately laid, the moisture rising from the ground will turn to condensation on contact with metal surfaces of equipment stored within the Shed and rust and corrosion will result. It is also essential to ensure that rainwater cannot find its way under the edges of the Floor Frame and into the Shed. To prevent this occurring, following the assembly of the Shed, lift it approx. 5 cm off the foundation by putting a wooden wedge at each of the 4 corners and apply a substantial beading of sealant between the foundation and all around the base of the Floor Frame. Then remove the wooden wedges and allow the Shed to settle into the sealant before anchoring it firmly to the foundation, all the necessary materials required (bolts, dowels and anchors), are provided in the delivery. A storm proof anchoring is essential, do not forget to take the local weather conditions into account when planning the foundation. Should a Garden Shed be erected, without a concrete foundation or on frosty or unstable ground, it is absolutely essential to use a Biohort Floor Frame in these conditions. Should a side canopy also be erected (to the left or right), ensure that the foundation is at least 145 cm wider to accommodate this.

Return to the FAQ list
Is it possible to install a second double door in the Garden Shed?

The installation of a second double door is in principle possible by all Shed sizes. For this purpose an extra door package must be ordered. The side wall elements will, in the case of an order with an extra door, be adapted to suit the number of units. The extra door can also be built into an already assembled Garden Shed.

Return to the FAQ list
Can the window unit be installed, at a later date, without too much effort?

Yes, the window unit has exactly the same size as a standard side wall unit and is delivered fully assembled in a sturdy carton package, it can be installed in place of the standard side unit. How can the window unit be retrofitted?

  1. Remove the carriage bolts of the side wall which is to be replaced.
  2. Loosen all further screws or bolts which connect the wall unit and top frame, and where necessary remove them.
  3. Raise the roof and top frame approx. 10-15 mm and replace the existing wall element with the window unit.
  4. Lower the top frame back onto the wall and window unit and tighten all loose connections, replace and tighten all previously removed screws and bolts.

Return to the FAQ list
Can Biohort products be recycled?

Yes, all Biohort products are manufactured from high quality steel plate which is 100% recycleable.

Return to the FAQ list
How is the Garden Shed ventilated?
The ventilation takes place through the 11 mm wide slot which is positioned between the roof and the roof support. This ensures a continuous circulation of air is guaranteed.
Return to the FAQ list
Where can the BikeMax be positioned and how can it be attached?

The bicycle holder BikeMax can be fitted into the Biohort Garden Shed (plug-in system) and is also ideally suited for wall mounting (i.e. in a garage). Screws and dowels for wall fitting are included in the delivery. Thanks to the V-shaped profile, not only bicycles with narrow tyres but also mountain bikes can be securely stored. The bicycle is hung from the front tyre rim in such a way as to ensure that the bicycles own centre of gravity prevents it from falling over. The BikeMax should be positioned with a clearance of at least 30 to 40 cm from the nearest wall (width of the handlebars should always be taken into account). Should several BikeMax be positioned beside one another, a distance of approx. 55 to 60 cm is recommended. When wall mounting we advise a clearance of 20 to 40 cm from the floor to the underside of the BikeMax frame. However different clearance can be chosen if desired. Should the BikeMax be staggered (i.e. not all mounted at the same height) the clearance can be reduced to 30 to 40 cm and space saved. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:

  1. The hanging bracket can be alternately positioned in the upper and lower holes provided in the V-profile rail.
  2. The rails themselves can be mounted at alternating heights, of about 30 to 50 cm when fitted to the wall.

The distances stated above are only recommended as guidelines. The actual surroundings, space available and the size of the bicycles must be taken into account. Allow enough clearance between each BikeMax otherwise hanging and dismounting bicycles will be more inconvenient than necessary.
