What is the cost of Biohort products in a different colour?

As a variation to our standard colours it is possible to choose from any of the over 200 RAL-colours on offer. This extra polyester coating not only looks particularly stylish but also increases the level of corrosion protection. RAL-colour cards are available in the paint dept's of most Marts and also in specialized trade shops. Naturally additional effort and expenses are incurred by such requests. The RAL polyester coating (similar to powder-coating) is carried out by third parties. This requires that the parts must be packed and unpacked several times over before they are finally dispatched to the customer. The increased cost for RAL special finishes differs from product to product. Please ask the Biohort customer service team for more information.

Standard colours of the Biohort products include:

Garden Shed Europa: quartz grey, dark green, metallic dark grey

Garden Shed AvantGarde: metallic silver, dark green, metallic dark grey

Equipment Locker: metallic silver, dark green, metallic dark grey

WoodStock: metallic silver, metallic dark grey

StoreMax: metallic silver

LeisureTime Box: white, metallic silver, dark green, metallic dark grey

Return to the question summary.
How are Biohort products packed?

They are packed in robust corrugated fibreboxes which are clearly labeled on the outside. The majority of our products will be delivered in carton. Due to weight and size the garden sheds and the StoreMax® 190 comes in 2-4 individual pieces packed in carton.

Return to the question summary.
Can the double door be installed in other positions?

In as far as the size of the Garden Shed allows, the door can be positioned eccentrically, or installed in any wall of the shed as desired. Should you choose to position the door in the furthest left, or right corner of the shed (underneath the guttering pipes) please note you will no longer be able to place the downpipes or the storm anchors in these locations!

Return to the question summary.
Is a wider door available?

With the exception of the Shed sizes 1 and 2, the standard door (135 cm wide x 171 cm high) can be replaced by ordering a wider double door (171 cm x 171 cm). Due to the modular construction, the wider door can only be positioned eccentrically in the walls. The surrounding wall panels will be then matched with the larger opening and delivered in the corresponding quantity and sizes.

Return to the question summary.
Are the freight charges included in the price?

Yes! Delivery is free to the following countries (mainland): Austria, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark. The products are delivered either to the store or directly to your home (“free kerbside delivery”, access road must have a minimum width of 2,7m and be capable of bearing a 38 ton-lorry).

Return to the question summary.
What does "delivery free of charge" really mean?

"Free Delivery" is the non-recurring transport from our factory to the provided delivery address (mainland only), kerbside delivery and takes place under the condition that the destination road must support and be accessible to a 38 ton lorry. Please note: Should it not be possible to complete the delivery at the first attempt (i.e. nobody at home), the haulage company is within its legal rights to demand payment from the customer for incurring additional expenses. We therefore advise our customers to make full use of the toll-free contact service provided. When ordering from us please provide a telephone number where you can be reached from the haulage company during office hours.

Return to the question summary.
"20 years guarantee" - for what, exactly?

- against rusting through of the steel panels - for defective or unserviceable parts Excluded from the guarantee are damages incurred in transit (haulage company is liabe), damages incurred due to faulty or inadequate foundations and/or corrosive materials in the surroundings, indirect or secondary damage. For wear and tear, moving parts, changes in colour, plastic- and rubber parts the statutory period of guarantee applies. The detailed conditions of guarantee are normally enclosed with each delivery (guarantee certificate) we will gladly send these to any customer upon request.

Return to the question summary.
What steps can one take to prevent the formation of condensation water?

Please pay attention during assembly, that a damp course be installed to protect against moisture rising from the ground below (see foundation advice Garden Shed). Where there is high humidity and large variations in temperature, it is possible that condensation will build on the inside of the roof during the night. This is dependent on local conditions, however it can be reduced or prevented by applying 2 cm thick polystyrene panels on the inside as insulation. The polystyrene panels must be attached with an appropriate glue to the inside of the roof (please enquire at your local dealer as regards a suitable PU-glue).

Return to the question summary.
What can one do, when the Shed sizes on offer are to small?

Should a Garden Shed be required in a larger size than those provided by us, an extension set which can be attached gable side is available. The first Shed is either already in place or will be delivered in standard configuration. The extension Shed will be delivered without back wall and front (door) elements. Instead of these the necessary components for assembling both sheds will be supplied (i.e. Shed sizes 7 and 5 together make a shed 5,2 meters long). The roof at the gable connecting point will still have a thoroughfare height of 173 cm. To guarantee stability with such special Shed sizes a concrete foundation becomes essential.

Return to the question summary.
In which countries does "delivery free of charge" apply?

To Austria, Germany, France, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Italy and Belgium (“free kerbside delivery”, delivery only to mainland and access road must have a minimum width of 2,7m and be capable of bearing a 38 ton-lorry). Deliveries to all other countries will incur shipping charges.

Return to the question summary.
What sort of maintenance do Biohort products require?

Biohort products require - due to the high-quality materials - hardly any maintenance. All that's required is that the lock, the hinges and guide profiles, rails etc. are oiled at least once or twice a year or treated with grease (Vaseline in the case of the guide rails of the Storemax). In the case of soiling and dirt brought on by weather and environmental conditions only water, a sponge and mild household detergent are required to clean our products.

You can even use a high-pressure cleaner to get rid of dirt on your garden shed (distance at least 10 cm). Should the paint finish be deeply scratched, this damage must be repaired by retouching the paint in the affected area. Important: Aggressive cleaning and scouring agents, road salt, fertilisers and other such chemical materials can attack the paint and zinc surfaces and thereby lead to rust damage. Guarantee claims in such cases can no longer be brought to bear.

Return to the question summary.
Are special skills or tools necessary to complete the assembly?

No, even without special technical skills you will manage to assemble the Biohort products with the enclosed assembly instructions. The main tool - an M7 socket spanner - will be attached to the product. In addition a flat spanner 7/10 will be delivered along with Garden Sheds and Equipment Lockers. Furthermore, for the assembly of the Garden Shed/Equipment Locker a plain slot screwdriver and for the StoreMax® a cross slot screwdriver is necessary. We can assist you, in case you do not carry out the assembly by yourself. Please find our installation partners in the "Assembly" section of our website.

Return to the question summary.
Is it possible to plant vegetation directly onto the roof of the Garden Shed?

The planting of vegetation (grass) directly onto the roof is for various reasons not recommended. However there is no reason why climbing plants (vines or ivy) should not be allowed to grow over the walls and roof.

Return to the question summary.
Are there legal restrictions concerning the erection of Biohort Garden sheds?

In general not. Most federal states' or provinces' builduing regulations allow the placement without a builduing licence. Occasionally a subsequent announcement has to be made at the local authorities (e.g. community, city government, etc.). In most areas it is allowed to place the garden shed directly at the property boundary. Enclosed to the assembly instructions you can find a building application plan for the local authorities. Of course you can download our standard building application plan from our website. Please ask your local authorities for more information about specific requirements in your area. It may also be good to arrange it in consultation with your neighbour.

Return to the question summary.
How much time is required to assemble Biohort products?

This depends on several factors:

A) skilfulness of the assemblers

B) weather conditions (never assemble during windy weather!)

C) field conditions

Our experience shows that the assembly takes about:

Garden Shed "Europa"

3 to 6 hours (depending on size)
Garden Shed "AvantGarde" 4 to 6 hours (depending on size)
Equipment Locker 2 to 3 hours
LeisureTime Box 0,5 to 2 hours

StoreMax®

0,5 to 1,5 hours
WoodStock® 1,5 hours

Return to the question summary.
Can electrical installations be built into the Garden Shed?

So long as the stipulated regulations and safety measures are adhered to, it is possible. The installation should nonetheless be carried out, without exception by a qualified electrician.

Return to the question summary.
What weight of snow will the Garden Shed stand up to?
The roof of the Garden Shed is designed to withstand a max. snow load of 150 kg/m². However roof avalanches from neighbouring buildings can result in a damaged roof.
Return to the question summary.
How many people are required to complete the assembly?

Garden Shed Europa 2 persons
Garden Shed AvantGarde 2 persons
Equipment Locker 1-2 persons
StoreMax 1-2 persons
LeisureTime Box 1 person

Return to the question summary.
Which types of foundation construction are to be recommended for the Garden Shed/Equipment Locker?

1. The simplest erection solution is to install your Garden Shed directly on to a Biohort Floor Frame (without any special foundation) and secure this in the ground with the storm anchors provided. The Floor Frame can then be filled out with commercially available paving slabs.

2. An effective and economical solution can be achieved by laying paving slabs (40 x 40 cm or 50 x 50 cm) in a sand or shingle bed. These paving slabs are available in a variety of colours and finishes from almost all Home worker- and DIY suppliers. Even when the paving slabs are firmly and evenly placed in the sand or shingle we still recommend the use of a Biohort Floor Frame to ensure stability.

3. Another solution to assure the storm-proof erection of the Garden Shed on uneven and yielding ground is to combine the Biohort Floor Frame with a point foundation. The foundation points must be positioned at each of the four corners of the shed and have a minimum size of 30 x 30 cm. The excavation should be of an adequate depth to ensure protection against frost. The Shed, including Floor Frame, will be attached at each of the four foundation points twice over with the anchoring material provided.

4. A reinforced concrete foundation in a gravel bed is without doubt the optimum but most expensive solution. Even with this option, measures must be taken to ensure that no water can enter the shed from underneath the floor frame. A shouldered foundation with a step of 2 cm x 7 cm running around the circumference is the most ideal of all the variations proposed here.

Return to the question summary.
Is there enough room in the Garden Shed to store bicycles?

Two bicycles, each with a max. length of 176 cm, can be stored in the Garden Shed. One bike can be stored with a Biohort bikeMax (max. rim diameter 26 inch). The second bike can be put on the floor of the Equipment Locker.

Return to the question summary.
What steps must be taken during the design and construction of the foundations for the Garden Shed/Equiment Locker?

During the construction of the foundations, irregardless which option is chosen, it is absolutely essential to place a plastic sheet of at least 150 µm thickness underneath the concrete or foundation material. In the case of a concrete foundation you must ensure that the plastic sheet is cut flush with the outer edges of the base. Should commercial paving slabs laid in sand or gravel be used, ensure that the plastic sheet does not extend beyond the outside edges of the Shed itself. (Rain water running down the sides of the Shed must be able to seep between the paving slabs into the ground below.) Should you choose not to use a plastic sheet, or should this be improperly or inadequately laid, the moisture rising from the ground will turn to condensation on contact with metal surfaces of equipment stored within the Shed and rust and corrosion will result. It is also essential to ensure that no rainwater can find its way under the edges of the Floor Frame and into the Shed. To prevent this occurring, following the erection, lift the Shed approx. 5 cm off of the foundation by putting a wooden wedge at each of the 4 corners and apply a substantial beading of sealant between the foundation and all around the base of the Floor Frame. Then remove the wooden wedges and allow the Shed to settle into the sealant before anchoring it firmly to the foundation. It is essential to provide a storm proof anchoring on site, do not forget to take the local weather conditions into account when doing this. All the necessary materials (bolts, dowels and anchors), are provided in the delivery. Should a Garden Shed be erected, without a concrete foundation or on frosty or insufficiently stable ground, it is absolutely essential to use a Biohort Floor Frame in these conditions. Should a side canopy also be erected (to the left or right), ensure that the foundation is at least 145 cm wider to accommodate this.

Return to the question summary.
Is it possible to install a second double door in the Garden Shed?

The installation of a second double door is in principle possible by all Shed sizes. For this purpose an extra door package must be ordered. The side wall elements will, in the case of an order with an extra door, be adapted to suit the number of units. The extra door can also be built into an already assembled Garden Shed.

Return to the question summary.
How many dustbins fit into the StoreMax?

Return to the question summary.
Can the window unit be installed, at a later date, without too much effort?
Yes, the window unit has exactly the same size as a standard side wall unit and is delivered fully assembled in a sturdy carton package, it can be installed in place of the standard side unit. How can the window unit be belatedly installed? 1.) The carriage bolts of the side wall to be replaced must first be removed. 2.) loosen all further screws or bolt that ensure the secure connection of wall unit and top frame, and where necessary remove them. 3.) Raise the roof with support frame appr. 10-15 mm, remove the existing wall element and replace it with the window unit. 4.) Lower the top frame onto the wall elements and window unit and tighten all loose bolts, replace and tighten all connections previously removed.
Return to the question summary.
Can Biohort products be recycled?

Yes, all Biohort products are manufactured from high quality steel plate which is 100% recycleable.

Return to the question summary.
Is it necessary to prepare a foundation for the StoreMax 120, 160 or 190?

The StoreMax is delivered with a galvanised metal floor in all model sizes. Therefore all that is required to position the StoreMax is a level and stable base. Asphalt driveways, paving slabs laid in sand or stone as well as frost proof concrete foundations are all suitable for this purpose. To ensure a storm proof arrangement the StoreMax must be anchored to the foundation with the bolts and dowels provided. The chosen position must have at least the following dimensions:

StoreMax 120 area: L = 117 cm, T = 73 cm
StoreMax 160 area: L = 163 cm, T = 78 cm
StoreMax 190 area: L = 190 cm, T = 97 cm

Return to the question summary.
How is the Garden Shed ventilated?
The ventilation takes place through the 11 mm wide slot which is positioned between the roof and the roof support. In this way a permanent circulation of air is ensured.
Return to the question summary.
Where can the BikeMax be positioned and how can it be attache?

The bicycle holder BikeMax can not only be fitted into the Biohort Garden Shed (plug-in system), but is also ideally suited for wall mounting (i.e. in a garage), screws and dowels for such eventualities are included with the delivery. Thanks to the V-shaped profile, not only bicycles with narrow tyres but also mountain bikes can be securely stored. The bicycle is hung from the front tyre rim. The centre of gravity is therefore positioned in such a way as to ensure that the bicycle centres itself and does not fall over. The BikeMax should be positioned with a clearance of at least 30 to 40 cm from the nearest walls (the width of the handlebars should always be taken into account). Should several BikeMax be positioned beside one another, a distance of ca. 55 to 60 cm is recommended. When wall mounting we advise a clearance of 20 to 40 cm from the floor to the underside of the BikeMax railing profile. However a different clearance can be chosen if desired. Should however the BikeMax be staggered (i.e. not all mounted at the same height) the clearance can be reduced to 30 to 40 cm and space saved. This can be accomplished in one of two ways: A.) The hanging bracket can be alternately positioned in the uppermost and bottom holes provided in the rows drilled in the V-profile rail. B.) The rails themselves can be mounted at alternating heights, of about 30 to 50 cm when fitted to the wall. The distances mentioned here are only for assistance. The actual circumstances that prevail and the size of the bicycles must be taken into account. Bear in mind should the space between bicycles be to small, the hanging or dismounting will be nowhere near as convenient as by larger clearances.
