2012 - Biohort sponsors SOS-Children's Village in Tadjoura
Since the beginning of 2012, Biohort is supporting the SOS-Children’s Village Tadjoura in the small African State of Djibouti.
Djibouti is a small country with big problems. It occupies an area which is not even half the size of Bavaria, only a minority of the population benefited from the slight economic upturn of recent years while the vast majority lives in extreme poverty. With an unemployment rate of 50% (Source: CIA – The World Fact book) with tendency rising, it is the children who suffer most. According to a report from UNICEF, 30% of all the girls and boys under the age of five are severely malnourished. In the city of Tadjoura, 11% of the children between the ages of one and fourteen grow up as orphans. 42% have to grow up without the benefit of essential basic needs such as a food, fresh water and education. The SOS-Children’s Village saw an urgent need to act by March 2013 with the support of Biohort they intend to build a children’s village with kindergarten and playground. Construction begins this year.
